Spirit of shankly
I read a fantastic blog the other day that really got me thinking about joining the spirit of shankly. For those thats dont know the spirit of shankly are a supporters union for liverpool football clubs fan who are trying to rid the club of the taint george gillette and tom hicks are currently spreading and more power to them! Like the writer said he liked the fact the group were standing up being loud, proud and making their voices heard but there was something that was stopping him. Back in june and the end of season party there was an incident where an entertainer (who the S.O.S have said was not part of the evenings entertainment) came on stage singing liverpool songs and started singing a infamous Munich song in honour of our rivals from manchester. If you arent aware the munich song gloats about the munich air disaster which saw the man utds plane crash killing a number of people. As a proud liverpool fan myself i would never take part or promote such songs or behaviour especially when we have put up with it ourselves for the hillsborough disaster, i was sat in the anfield road end last season in the champions league match against chelsea unfortunately i was in the away section as my uncle a dirty blue season ticket holder got me a ticket and i had to stand there listening to a large portion of those so called fans sing disgusting chants about hillsborough and it made me feel sick. My point is as football fans we have banter between clubs and hurl abuse we all love that but it should never get that personal with topics such as munich or hillsborough. Towards the end of his blog the writer was saying he was joing the S.O.S to make a difference be a voice in the union etc and justified it by saying even if you dont completely agree with it you should join to try and change it but on that very reasoning would you join the British national party to try and change their views and policy?!?!?! NO! you wouldnt provide funding for them to continue you would be disgusted that they represent our country and you surely??? you would want to stand up against them. Now i would just like to make it clear in no way am i comparing the Spirit of shankly with the british national party in all honestly it was nice to see so many fans in the kop and around the ground trying to be heard when the 1000’s of others just walked past or left. what im trying to do is just show that the writer made a very flawed point as if he truly believes that the spirit of shankly were representing themselves constantly in that manner he was therefore providing his backing to it! Personally i believe that the guy on stage got out of control and after a few too many beers a few fans started joinging in after all every club has a fgew idiots within it but if those same fans heard the hillsborough chant how would they react?
